Amnesty International supports calls for gender equality as activists arrested and discrimination is entrenched.
Amnesty International has signed up to support a call for freedom and gender equality made by Iranian women’s rights activists ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2010 (http://www.irangenderequality.com/). The activists leading this initiative are asking organizations and individuals outside Iran to echo their call and to act as a voice when their own are silenced through repression.

Alexander Langer Foundation’s event in solidarity with the Iran-led Campaign for Freedom and Gender Equality, 8th of March, Bolzano, Italy
The foundation, which in July 2009 gave its annual prize to Nagues Moghammadi, Dr Shirin Ebadi’s colleague, co-organised this event with the city town hall as well as numerous women’s organisations of the city of Bolzano.
The president of the foundation, Christine Stufferin started the ceremony by expressing her happiness for dedicating an event to Iranian woman, and wished them success in achieving freedom and equality.
Patrizia Trincanato, Equal Rights’ supervisor of the city of Bolzano, shared memories of her travel to Iran few years ago, and her gratitude for the warmth with which the people in Iran had received her. She expressed disappointment about the injustice that youth in Iran had been subjected to by the regime, and pointed at the importance of solidarity with Iranian women by organisng such events.
Marcella Pirrone, women’s advocate and lawyer for the Department of Justice emphasised on the peaceful strategies such as the One Million Signatures campaign that Iranian women had initiated throughout their challenging years of struggles. She also pointed at the numerous women political prisoners as well as legal disparities Iranian women are facing, and expressed her support for women and women’s activists in Iran.
Sabri Najafi, Iranian women’s activists, thanked all who had participated in the event, and spoke about the history of the struggles of women in Iran; their plight throughout the past 31 years since their demonstration on the 8th of March 1979; their silence in front of their infringed rights as a result of the hardships during the war, their forced migrations. She then explained how on June 12th 2005 Iranian women finally broke the silence and talked about their strategies of organising during the past few years, emphasising on the importance of the One Million Signatures campaign both in changing the discriminatory laws as well as raising gender awareness in the broader society. She concluded by pointing at the dangers women’s rights advocates had been confronting in putting forward their cause and the extent with which the pressure on them had been increased since the disputed presidential elections in June.
Sissi Prader and Astrid Schoenweger spoke about possible future collaboration of Iranian and Italian women on a project to organize women’s museum and praised Iranian women for their courage.
In a video-interview, Parvin Ardalan, the co-founder of the One Million Signatures campaign, thanked Italian supporters and expressed her hope in ending inequalities through such solidarities.
The session ended by the screening of, “Tehran without permission”, a documentary directed by Sepideh Farsi, filmed with a mobile phone in Iran in spring 2009.

Appello per l'Uguaglianza di genere e Libertà in Iran
Da oltre trent'anni il movimento delle donne in Iran appoggia in prima linea la lotta per la libertà e l'eguaglianza. La subordinazione di genere si incrocia con la discriminazione di classe, etnica, ideologia, politica, fede religiosa, ecc. Il progresso del pensiero democratico è supportato innanzitutto dalla resistenza pacifica di uomini e donne in difesa dell'eguaglianza di genere nella sfera giuridica, culturale, sociale e economica. Le donne iraniane da anni, con l'uso di metodi differenti, sia individuali sia collettivi, organizzano campagne per cambiare le leggi discriminatorie e contribuiscono alla diffusione dell'eguaglianza di genere. Così facendo rischiano minacce, arresti, processi e molte di loro sono ancora in prigione. Il trentesimo anniversario della "Convenzione per l'eliminazione di tutte le forme di discriminazione contro le donne" (CEDAW) -a cui l'Iran non aderisce- è coinciso con quello di trent'anni di discriminazione contro le donne iraniane; e in vista del quindicesimo anniversario (marzo 2010) della "Quarta Conferenza Mondiale delle Donne (5+1) tenuta a Pechino" si nota che l'Iran non si è impegnato a eliminare le discriminazioni contro le donne. In tale delicata situazione, risulta più che necessario lo sviluppo della solidarietà femminile a livello globale con le donne iraniane e, in particolare, con le attiviste, che lottano per l'eguaglianza dei diritti e per stabilire la democrazia in Iran. Veranstaltungsbericht – Analyse
Am 8. März 2010 wurde der Frauentag in der Sofioter Universität „Sv. Kliment Ohridski“ durch aktive StudentInnen und Jugendlichen zum zweiten Mal politisch gefeiert. Auch diesmal bot sich die Feier als Alternative zu dem sonst kommerziell verstandenen Anlass an, der „Frau“ eine Art „Schuldgeld“ zu bezahlen oder die „Weiblichkeit“ im „Kult“ zu verehren.
Die Veranstaltung wurde unter dem folgenden Motto durchgeführt: „Der 8. März – ein Kampftag, kein Blumentag!“. Spricht das nicht für sich selbst? Es wurde eine Fotoausstellung gezeigt und eine Aufführung organisiert. Die einzelnen Fotos wurden nach drei Themenkomplexen geordnet: Geschichte des Feminismus, Geschichte des Datums 8. März, Frauen in Risikosituationen heute. Die Anwesenden hatten das Vergnügen, eine kurze Performance zum Thema Sexismus zu sehen, deren Text die Schauspielerin selbst vorbereitet hatte, sowie tief greifende soziale Texte zu hören, die die anderen Teilnehmerinnen geschrieben hatten. Abschließend wurde ein Film über das Leben von Kostadina Kouneva gezeigt. Frau Kouneva ist eine bulgarische Syndikalistin mit akademischem Hochschulgrad, die als Reinigungskraft in Griechenland gearbeitet hat. Sie wurde wegen ihres Muts, die Rechte der Frauenarbeiter dort zu verteidigen, mit Säure übergossen. Eine Diskussion wurde nach der Filmvorführung gestartet, wobei das Publikum im Saal gar nicht müde nach ein paar Stunden nach dem Auftakt der ganzen Veranstaltung war, sondern gesprächsbereit. Mehrere Fragen wurden im Zusammenhang mit den vorher angesprochenen Themen gestellt. Die StudentInnen diskutierten über die Gerechtigkeit der Gesellschaftsordnung und äußerten einige Vorschläge zu deren Reformierung.
Die Organisatoren, die studentisch-schülerische Bewegung „Appell“ und die Initiative „Gleichstellung“, haben scherzhaft den ganzen Monat März zum Frauenmonat erklärt. Zusätzliche Ereignisse unter dem Motto „Der 8. März – ein Kampftag, kein Blumentag!“ sind eventuell zu erwarten. Es wird geplant, dass sich die schon stattgefundene Aktion in eine Wanderveranstaltung verwandelt. Überzeugt, dass jeden Tag der 8. März sein soll und dass die Frauenrechte nicht nur einmal im Jahr symbolisch erwähnt werden dürfen, haben sich die Anwesenden bereit erklärt, an den einzelnen Problemen, die die Ausstellung, die Performance und die Diskussion ans Tageslicht gebracht haben, auch in den kommenden Monaten zu arbeiten. Es wurde die Notwendigkeit unterstrichen, Kampagnen für die soziale Unterstützung von Not leidenden Menschen zu führen. Wichtig wäre Aufmerksamkeit folgenden Menschengruppen zu schenken: die armen alten Frauen ohne Hoffnung auf ein besseres Leben, die schlechter bezahlten und bei Krise häufiger entlassenen Frauenarbeiter, die Reinigungskräfte, die Prostituierten, die Waisenkinder in den Heimen, die Opfer der sexuellen Gewalt, die wegen ihres zierlichen Körpers und ihrer Unfähigkeit sich zu schützen gefoltert werden, die Ehefrauen, die unter der Tyrannei ihrer Ehemänner leiden, sowie viele andere Opfer „des Mythos der Weiblichkeit“, der für jedes sorgenlose Mädchen, sogar hier in der so genannten „demokratischen Welt“, eine oder andere geschlechtsbezogene Ungerechtigkeit in sich birgt.
